Procida is one of the Flegrean Islands off the coast of Naples in southern Italy. The island lies between Cape Miseno and the island of Ischia. According to an old story, the island name comes from Prochyta and the Greek verb prokeitai, meaning 'it lies forth', because of its appearance seen from the sea.
